I recently heard someone from California comment that after returning from a visit to New York, where it was six degrees, she now understood why people that live in other parts of the country talk about the weather all the time. I know I sure like to talk about it. While we don’t get temperatures that low (Thank God!), the rain, the gray and the darkness are what get me down. But, as I mentioned in a previous post, I entered 2019 with a goal to be more proactive about how I deal with the winter season, including having a better attitude – aka. not bitching about the weather so much.

Over the years, I’ve read about alarm clocks that simulate a sunrise but never pulled the trigger to purchase one. I really liked the idea of it because one of the hardest parts of winter for me is waking up in the dark. I’m not one of those people that like blackout curtains, I want the light to come through the window in the morning and shine right in my face. As I searched the Internet for tips on how to best beat the wintertime blues, I came across this article, which included a recommendation for the Philips Wake-Up Light Alarm Clock. While the cost was more than I ever thought I’d spend on an alarm clock, it had great reviews, I was desperate, and it seemed like it could really make a difference so I decided to go for it.

I’ve been using it for just over a month and I’m happy to report, it has made a big difference for me – I’m not hitting snooze on my phone alarm ten times before getting out of bed and I wake-up with far more energy. The sunrise effect is slow and gentle and ends with a soft but bright light and birds chirping softly – love it. If you’re someone who enjoys waking up with the sun shining in your face – or maybe you’re not so into that but just want to wake up with more energy – I highly recommend giving this alarm clock a try.
